Brasilia

Located in central Brazil is the nation’s capital Brasilia. The building of the city began as recently as 1956 and was officially named the nations capital in 1960. From the air Brasilia was designed to look like an aeroplane which is just one unique and modern twist to this remarkable city. Unlike many capital cities of the world the architecture is modern with space age government and public buildings.

The cultural complex of the republic is one such building and this houses the national library and the fascinating national museum. Brasilia is also the only city in the world built in the 20th century that has been declared a world heritage site. Architecture is the cities main draw with many inspired constructions on show including the fantastic Juscelino Kubitschek Bridge with arches that cross the road, and the Palacio do Planalto which is the president’s official residence and is a modern and amazing building. The cathedral of Brasilia is another stunning piece of modern architecture and is not at all out of place in this city.

Praca dos Tres Poderes (Portuguese for square of three powers) is a major tourist attraction, the three powers being the presidential offices, the national congress and the judiciary which all surround this plaza. When the city was built it was decided to include an artificial lake, Lake Paranoa. This huge lake makes for a great and relaxing getaway from the bustle of the city and water sports enthusiast will not be disappointed with many water based activities to divulge in. if you are planning to stay in Brasilia and make it part of your holiday to Brazil then you have an abundance of choices available for accommodation, all hotels are modern in design and located well.
